Deskwarming Diaries #10

Welcome to another edition of the Deskwarming Diaries, where an ALT now finds herself thankfully working from home.

Yup! I finally got permission to work from home! We ended up opening school for one week, only to close it again because cases in Nagano Prefecture were increasing pretty consistently. Now, they’ve closed school until May 8th.

What I’ve been up to

Teaching myself to relax, mostly. I’ve been so stressed out the last like two months, so it’s actually pretty nice to be able to just stay in my house. I’ve been exercising, doing breathing exercises, playing Animal Crossing, and….

sewing masks!

Remember a couple diaries back when I posted about maybe trying to make a mask? Well I became tired of sitting around, so I looked online for sewing machines. Unfortunately the only ones left were expensive ones for advanced sewers, so I went to a nearby craft store and bought all the stuff. I’ve made two so far, and I’m in love. They fit nice and snug and are super comfortable. If you’ve got some time on your hands, why not try making one? It does take a while if you hand sew them like I have to, but it feels so nice to hold the finished product in your hands and know that you made that.

If you follow the pattern I’m using, make sure to check out the video tutorial — very easy to follow! I would also recommend using T-shirt yarn (if you have it) for the ties; it’s soft, comfortable, and a bit elastic.

Other than that, I’m not up to much — mostly waiting to see if my school is even going to try doing online classes. Right now, they’re just giving the kids handouts to do at home, meaning the kids are just reviewing everything they’ve learned. They aren’t learning anything new, so I’m nervous for how the rest of the school year is going to turn out. I’ve heard rumors that our summer breaks might be shortened to make up for lost time, and while I really hope that doesn’t happen, it probably will. We’ll see!

Until next time!
